Thanks for this article, Jonathan. I knew Marilou McCully when I attended a Plymouth Brethren congregation in the Seattle area in the 1980s. Of course, we held these missionaries up as heroes, and there was no doubt they were Brethren.

Marilou died in 2004, and I left the Brethren long ago, but stories delving into this fascinating and many-layered missionary stories are always of interest to me.
