Nice summary, Will. I am actually a bit conflicted about all this. I have an M1 MacBook Air in addition to an iPad Air 4, and because of the low weight and simplicity of the MacBook, as well as its better-than-an-iPad battery life and better ergonomics, I find myself gravitating toward the laptop more than the iPad.

Long ago I tried to use an iPad as a laptop replacement, and gave up. It's a substitute for the laptop, not a replacement even with the Magic Keyboard, thanks largely to the gap between iPadOS and MacOS. If I have to do without my laptop, the iPad will do fine, but if I had to give one up it would be the iPad. Someday I plan on writing my own article on this, if I ever get my feelings about it sorted out.
