I love both the films and the books, for different reasons. Fleming was a good writer, occasionally veering into greatness, and I've read all the Bond novels a couple of times. I wouldn't call the movies "trash" by any means. By and large, they're escapist fantasy, and I love to watch them for that reason. I think they became Very Good with Casino Royale; Craig's Bond had a genuine character arc, and the quality of writing, acting and general filmmaking was far superior to anything that came before (though I have a soft spot for the Pierce Brosnan films, which are simply over the top). At any rate, good article, thanks very much!
