As mentioned in other replies, Apple’s support of old hardware makes your “planned obsolescence” argument just plain wrong. Many of my fellow Apple users keep their phones for years. I bought an iPhone XR after the release of the iPhone 11 and just upgraded to a 13 Pro for the improved camera — a better bargain than buying a new camera.
I like the recycling program because I do get money back, and I’ve taken advantage of Apple’s excellent refurbished hardware multiple times. No, Apple is far from perfect, but I’m not aware of anyone who is.
